And she'll have fun, fun, fun ‘til her daddy takes the T-Bird away-unless he's taking it to Richmond Town, of course! The Staten Island Region Antique Automobile Club of America rolls into Richmond Town every Wednesday evening to give visitors a closer look at classic cars from the golden age of the American automobile. A caravan of coupes, convertibles, and sedans will be descending upon New York City's only living history village all summer long (weather permitting, of course) beginning at 5:30 PM. In order to make these fine automobiles more readily accessible to the viewing public and to continue to provide the local community with the affordable family fun with which it has become synonymous, Historic Richmond Town is providing FREE ADMISSION to all visitors on Family Cruise Nites! And guess what...the groovy tunes that you'll hear throughout the village are FREE, too--thanks to Pro Sho Sound on Arthur Kill Road!

Even the folks in Congress have taken notice of all the rumbling engines: The Senate officially declared the first "Collector Car Appreciation Day," recognizing that the collection and restoration of historic and classic cars is an important part of preserving the technological achievements and cultural heritage of the United States. Senate Resolution 513 "encourages the people of the United States to engage in events and commemorations of Collector Car Appreciation Day that create opportunities for collector car owners to educate young people on the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of the United States, including through the collection and restoration of collector cars."

So what are you waiting for? Come join your fellow automobile enthusiasts in Historic Richmond Town on Wednesday, July 7th, when we celebrate Collector Car Appreciation Day with the Staten Island Region Antique Automobile Club of America. And feel free to come back again every Wednesday evening through September 29th as Historic Richmond Town celebrates its first ever Collector Car Appreciation Summer!

Admission to Family Cruise Nites is FREE to the general public. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Family Cruise Nites occur every Wednesday evening from May 12th through September 29th, 5:30 PM until dusk. Cars must be at least 25 years old to join the classic car lineup on Center Street. Classic cars should enter Center Street near St. Patrick's Place, beginning at 5:15 PM. Newer cars and those of visitors should be parked in Historic Richmond Town's main parking lot at 441 Clarke Avenue. No motorcycles are permitted on the grounds of the historic village.

Historic Richmond Town

The Staten Island Historical Society operates Historic Richmond Town, New York City's historic village and museum complex. Historic Richmond Town is comprised of more than 25 homes and public buildings, including the Voorlezer's House, a National Landmark building dated to the 1690s; the Third County Courthouse, built in 1837; and P.S. 28, an elementary school built in 1907. Together, these buildings recreate the history of over 300 years of continuous residence on Staten Island. Located in the heart of Richmond County, Historic Richmond Town is a 15-minute drive from all bridges and a 30-minute ride from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal on the S74 bus.

Visitors to Historic Richmond Town can tour furnished historic structures as well as the exhibition galleries in the Historical Museum. The museum features the exhibitions Made on Staten Island, which presents the Island's industrial and social history; TOYS!, which explores the many ways that children learn about themselves and their world through toys; and Bringing Up Baby, which explores the role that children's furniture has played in American homes during the past three centuries.

The mission of the Staten Island Historical Society is to create opportunities for the public to explore the diversity of the American experience, especially that of Staten Island and its neighboring communities from the colonial period to the present day. Historic Richmond Town is a joint project of the independent Staten Island Historical Society and the City of New York through the Department of Cultural Affairs, and is a member of the Historic House Trust.
