Nathaniel (Nate) Smith makes his professional stage debut in Firehouse Theatre Project's season opener, A Bright New Boise. Nate plays Alex, a complex teen working at a Boise Hobby Lobby. Smith takes the stage again Thursday, October 4 at 8:00pm at Firehouse Theatre.

"This experience has been so great because my character is so different from who I am," said Smith. "It's fun to be a completely different person."

Nathaniel Smith, a freshman at St. Christopher's School, has had roles in several plays including You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, A Brief Unit in Interdimensional Heroism, and Alice in Wonderland. He was awarded the Middle School Drama Award and the Middle School English Award in 2012. Smith recently played Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls for SPARC (School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community).

"It is wonderful to have Nate as part of this talented ensemble," commented Carol Piersol, Founding Artistic Director of Firehouse Theatre Project. "He is a joy both on and off stage."

A Bright New Boise centers on Will, a disgraced Evangelical from northern Idaho who takes a job at a Boise Hobby Lobby. But as his fellow employees begin to uncover dark secrets from his past and become increasingly interested in his reasons for leaving his church, Will must choose whether to have a normal life or to hold onto the beliefs that have given his life meaning. Aboard a roller coaster of emotional outbursts, a choice between family and faith has to be made in this moving American profile.

A Bright New Boise performs at Richmond's Firehouse Theatre at 1609 West Broad Street on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm on October 4-6 and 11-13. A Pay What You Will performance will be held Sunday, October 7 at 4:00pm. An Industry Night performance will be held Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00pm.
