JD Souther and SGGL Returns To Wolf Trap at The Barns 2/15-18

JD-Souther-and-SGGL-Returns-To-Wolf-Trap-at-The-Barns-20010101

Wolf Trap has announced their upcoming Barns events.

A typical season at Wolf Trap includes something for everyone with performances ranging from pop, country, folk, and blues to orchestra, dance, theater, and opera, as well as innovative performance art and multimedia presentations.

Wolf Trap has announced two debuts plus the return of JD Souther and SGGL at The Barns Beginning February 15

JD Souther

Wednesday, February 15 at 8 p.m.

$25

A principal architect of the Southern California country-rock sound and original member of the Eagles, JD Souther returns to the spotlight with the release of his 1st studio album in 25 years, If the World was You. The record is a leap forward for Souther but also represents a return to his Amarillo, Texas roots where he honed his musical craft on the recordings of Coltrane and Davis, Hank Williams, Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison. A highly respected songwriter immersed in the hyper-competitive Nashville music landscape, Souther has penned songs for such diverse artists as India.Arie, Brooks & Dunn, Jimmy Buffett, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Dixie Chicks, Roy Orbison, and Warren Zevon. The Barns at Wolf Trap is honored to welcome back this iconic performer for the 2nd time in 3 years.

Gregory Alan Isakov with Special Guest Jeffrey Foucault

Thursday, February 16 at 8 p.m.

$18

Gregory Alan Isakov, discovered by Brandi Carlile and the Indigo Girls’ Amy Ray and recent recipient of the Best of Denver Singer/Songwriter Award, makes his much anticipated debut at The Barns at Wolf Trap. Immigrating with his parents to the United States from South Africa in opposition of the apartheid, Isakov eventually settled in Denver, Colorado—with a full-time focus on music and horticulture—and made an immediate impact upon the local music scene with his seldom-heard blend of punk folk, Americana, and Celtic. Isakov made his recording debut in 2003 with Rust Colored Stones followed by the hauntingly beautiful Songs for October and Celtic-influenced That Seas, The Gambler in 2005 and 2007 respectively. 2009 saw the release of This Empty Northern Hemisphere, featuring vocal contributions from Brandi Carlile, inspired by his shift from the Colorado wild to the more urban setting of Boulder.

America’s National Parks: Through the Artist’s Lens

Friday, February 17 at 8 p.m.

$35

Wolf Trap presents America’s National Parks: Through the Artist’s Lens, a Discovery Series performance and multimedia presentation featuring breathtaking images of America’s national parks taken by Wolf Trap President and CEO Terrence Jones. Visuals will be accompanied by music from Wolf Trap Opera Company alumni and Wolf Trap Opera and Classical Programming Director Kim Witman on piano. This unique performance is Wolf Trap’s latest effort to showcase the intersection of the arts and nature and how each impacts the other.

America’s National Parks: Through the Artist’s Lens represents a melding of Jones’s long-time passion and commitment for national parks and the arts featuring a visual insight into the intersection between them. The performance will showcase a sampling of photographs Jones captured during a cross-country sabbatical he made to 88 national parks from September 2008 through early January 2009, supplemented by a week to Denali National Park in March 2009. Images will be accompanied by music from esteemed Wolf Trap Opera Company (WTOC) alumni Melissa Shippen Burrows, soprano; Jamie Van Eyck, mezzo-soprano; David Portillo, tenor; and Alex Tall, baritone; with Kim Witman on piano. Additionally, photographs premiered at the performance will be included, along with many others, in Jones’s forthcoming book Road Trip: A Photographer’s Journey to America’s National Parks.
