Richmond CenterStage has announced that Desiree Roots will be the first performer of the 2012-13 U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret! Series: A Celebration of the Great American Song Book.
Roots will perform her highly praised show “Ella, Billie, Sarah and Nancy: Women of Jazz, Ladies of Song” in CenterStage’s Rhythm Hall beginning on October 18. The show will run through October 21.
Desiree Roots is well-known to Richmond audiences and throughout the Eastern Seaboard for her magnificent theatrical and vocal talent. Desiree is the daughter of the late Jimmy Roots, the renowned pianist/singer from Virginia, so from an early age she was surrounded by musicians as she sang her way through the Great American Song Book.
Roots has charmed audiences across the country as a dynamic and versatile singer and entertainer. She continues to dazzle with her interpretations of soul, jazz, theatre and pop music in an intimate cabaret setting. The Richmond Times-Dispatch has said of Roots that her “show-stopping performance(s) can be unforgettable.”
These performances of “Ella, Billie, Sarah and Nancy: Women of Jazz, Ladies of Song” will be the Richmond native’s CenterStage debut.
This season will also include performances from cabaret legend Amanda McBroom, rising star Tony DeSare, and pop culture icon Molly Ringwald. Roots will be performing at CenterStage’s Rhythm Hall from October 18-20 at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee on October 21. Ticket prices for the U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret! Series are:
